Host club:
East Van Bike Polo
Contact info:
Court size:
Large court - three half tennis courts

A one day extravaganza of female polo talent brought to you by the women of East Van and the ladies of Cascadia.

Grandview Park Vancouver, BC
(intersection of Charles St. and Commercial Drive)

Registration is at 10:00 am.

We hit the courts at 11:00am.

No 'polo time'.

1. Shoot with the business end of your mallet - that's the round "end" folks - or else its a "shuffle".

2. Ball joint – pass to another player off a ball joint before your team can score.

3. If your foot hits the ground its called a "dab" and you need to tap out on either side of centre court to engage in play again. Two sided (something loud, high hats)

4. When your team scores, head back to your end and wait for the other team’s first player to cross half before engaging them in play again.

5. Three contact rules that are acceptable:
Bike on Bike
Body on Body
Mallet on Mallet

We don't appreciate contact combinations (i.e. mallet on bike) and you will be called out!! Also, even though bike on bike contact is okay, there are no t-bones! Mallet on mallet is okay but no wind up hacks! Person on person is good but no punches to the face!

6. One etiquette rule:
Play others as they play you (i.e. if a player isn't roughing you up, don't take them out).

7. Passes to your own teammate through the offensive goal can not be scored immediately. The ball must be passed first.

8. All bar ends and mallets must be plugged.

9. No own goals.

10. No mallet throwing.

11. We seriously encourage the use of a helmet.

12. Goals are at cone height.

13. Enjoy!

How about just the Ladies Polo Extravaganza? or the East Van Extravaganza? Good grief, Lisa, that is such a fun word to say. Say it out loud! Extraaavahhhgaaanzaaaa. I like it.
Estrogen Extravaganza? Estrogen is not such a cool word though. pfft.
lol sorry that is horrible but you know, say it loud, say it proud...

ok, so I want to say thank you to Lisa and all the other East Van ladies who decided to make this happen. I guess a thank you to Mason, too, for bothering people with this idea at every tournament. And of course, thank you to all the ladies who play polo, cos the boys shouldn't have all the fun for themselves. :)

i hate myself, but if you will just excuse my nerdcore polo history moment...

"UH, ladies, I believe Seattle threw 2 separate gender specific turnys (one men and one ladies) back when they hosted the worlds in 2004. GLIVEN!"

anyway, i think that was more of an exibition. i bet yalls will kill it up there! w00t!

Like the Care Bears said, "sharing (bicycles, F/OSS, alcohol and Josh's Mom...) is caring"

Like the Care Bears said, "sharing (bicycles, F/OSS, alcohol and Josh's Mom...) is caring"

work is going to hate me but i'll be there. dope.

this sounds great. not sure i'll be able to make it, though. boo. i'm spending a week or so west for NAs and don't think i can afford the time or dollars to make another trip so soon afterwards. maybe we can do an east coast re-enactment?

i am leaning towards making teams as opposed to throw in...

i agree with you. kayla's in as well. fyi.

Well ladies, its so official I love it!

We've got women confirmed from East Van, Settle, Portland, Vermont and Calgary!! Ottawa's thinking about it!

Keep it coming!

Ideas for sponsorship and prizes totally welcome. You can send that directly to me at:

L'il Miss Used

Toronto's working on it.

So good to hear!

Like Polly below, I can hardly contain my excitement either!

this is going to be an amazing tournament ladies! i can hardly contain my excitement....butterflies!

Little update for the ladies:
As part of polo weekend in Vancouver, we have arranged for a discount on polo related bike parts for the weekend. Look for discounts on itmes such as tires, tubes, chains and cables!! Special thanks to our dear friends at Bikes on the Drive.

So looking forward to meeting all you wonderful polo women!

oh so still stoked!

any developments? are there going to be prizes? and would they be girly-friendly? (idk what that could mean, but i'm curious and would love to help with any and all ideas). are we coming up with our own teams or making them at the tournement?

also if there are any sponsorships available for travel costs, let's work on that. and not just for me, let's try to get girls from all over out for this.

Hey Cait,

Prizes: yes!
Girl friendly: yes!

I am still not 100% on own teams or not even though the feeling around here is teams, but I want to make this as inclusive as possible, so let's hear how people feel about this. I know some people have formed teams and some people singularly traveling from afar might not know enough people to form a team...

I am still open to suggestions.

Sponsorships for travel is a hard to do thing at this point (i.e. would need more time), but I am only sending out the sponsorship package this weekend (after I develop it that is!!).

So far ladies are coming from:
New York City

I am super stoked too!

Drop me a line and we can talk more specifics about how you can help out. I am completely open to help!

L'il Miss Used

hey lil miss... i was thinking we should do teams. since we are planning on hosting this tourney every year, it'll be something the girls will look forward to and plan their teams for. and it makes it more like other "serious" tourneys.

Hey Ladies,

Rachel from Burlington, Vermont here. Got my flights all set and can't wait for this!

As far as coming with teams or making them when we get there, I'm cool either way! I'm definitely coming alone, but if it gets called as a team thing, let's call this my first offer to be your teammate! I've been playing 2 summers, twice a week recently. I'm totally in it and competitive with all the guys I regularly play with, but no clue how I compare to all you other killer polo ladies.

Can't wait to play some awesome polo and meet everyone!

p.s. We've organized our fist ever ladies polo night here in Vermont, and it's going down tomorrow night. Yay!

Let us know how ladies night goes - and bring them to Vancouver!!!

flight = booked

Kev has almost convinced our team Los Coños (London, UK) to come over and enter. Just have to scrape together cash, email a few people and convince our 3rd team member.

Should be amazing if we can pull it off!

kev's not the guy to steer you wrong, do it!

The ladies in Ottawa are hosting a fund raiser. Get in touch with Oleah and see what they are doing! Get yer asses over here! Make it a TRUE international tournament...

this is amazing news...i hope it works out for you!

we would be pretty excited if you can make it out....please say yes!

Great to see all the ladies out this weekend! Jackie, Kelsie and Kelly, you girls kick ass! Amanda, thanks for stepping in - you're the best back up EVER!

Good to hear lots of ladies excited about this tournament. Can't wait to see you all here!

Update on team play:

Hello Ladies, so I have been asking women what they think of teams versus a throw in tournament, but it appears that many of you have already formed teams, so let's keep with that and if you need a team, we'll be more than happy to hook you up!

I'll post some more details after our planning meeting for who to contact if you need a team, a place to stay, etc.

L'il Miss Used

i heard mention of rides to east van from seattle? is this true?

If you ladies think there are local sponsorship opportunities in your cities, towns, communities, please drop me a line directly and I can send you our OUTSTANDING sponsorship package designed by Vancouver's own Erin Gibbs.

Or if you have sponsorship ideas, please post them here so we can get on it!

Peeing my pants with excitement!!!

L'il Miss Used

i talked to lucky (dave) black star bags and he said he was interested. i will talk to him more about what he wants to throw down. keep you in the know.
Bicycle/cykel/自行車/das Fahrrad/polkupyörä/bicicletta/bicicleta/reiðhjól/fiets/يَرْكَبُ درّاجة هوائ

freakin' awesome meg! thanks so much for this...

I spoke with Dave a few weeks back about this and sent him an email. Please follow up with him for me. I'll send him the sponsorship package.

Thanks Meg!

i hope this is the start of more ladies only tourneys! i am unable to make this (no time to plan!), but hope to represent at future events! I am organizing a polo tour of the east (ATX-NYC-NOLA, with many stops in between.) holler if we should hit up your polo pick-up games! we want to meet polo peeps from all over!

Good on ya Mo! Let us know how it all pans out.

Oleha and I are definitally coming out from Ottawa with a possibility of Jen too!!
3-2-1-Excited or to go along with the theme VAGited!

I screamed when I read this! Get Jen's ass out here!
Can't wait to meet you ladies!

L'il Miss Used

i have butterflies again. so excited about this tournament!

sounds awesome. i wish it was in october. also, it's the same weekend as Babes in Bikeland here in minneapolis.
have fun everyone!

You will be missed. Next year perhaps...

If anyone needs a place to stay, please get in touch with Polly from East Van:

She'll set you up.

Keep your eyes peeled, we may set up pre-registration on this site. We'll keep you posted.

Its all coming together! Super stoked about some of the prizes we are able to offer... shhh! Don't want to ruin any surprises!

Be prepared to PARTY Friday night!!

L'il Miss Used

Fundraiser we threw was a great success, Jens & Shelleys flighs on top of mine have now all been booked >> it's happening Ottawa has a full team representing!!

I think Calgary will have one or two ladies teams...

do you have an update for this? do you guys need housing?

Hey there - anyone looking for another teammate?? If so, let me know! I'm coming out alone from Burlington, Vermont and I can't wait to meet everyone and play with you all!

LADIES! The countdown is on! We are all so excited here in East Van to be hosting you all!

The prizes continue to roll in. We've got bike-inspired artisan works to outfit you from head to toe! Some local home-made treats... Discounts and wrench support from local shops that will be on site!!

Some tournament updates:
Cost: $10 per person for the women's touranment. If you are playing in both the ladies tournie and the East Van Crown (which you all should! What other city out there offers two tournaments in one weekend??!), the cost will be $15 for both.
Registration fee includes registration package (for each tournament), Friday night party, free prize raffel and we are working on food. Will keep you posted!

Accommodation: Again, get in touch with Polly for housing. We've got beds, floors with sleeping pads, tents in backyards all ready and waiting for you! No one need pay for shelter!

Thanks for getting your asses out here ladies!

More updates as they come in...

L'il Miss Used

Okay catfish, I'm going to move my mouth like this...

Hello Ladies,

Apparently you can't edit your own posting on here (lame btw).
Apologies up front, in the minutes our planning committee agreed that it would be $15 for the ladies tournament and $20 for both. However, there is tonnes of awesome stuff included in that and all the rest applies!

L'il Miss Used

you can edit (btw), just not after someone has responded to your comment for obvious reasons.

I was reading about this wonderful tournament and I realized that was me in your profile pic. It is a great one we look good. Keep up the good work on this tournament I can't wait to see it. Sounds like you will get some great talent.

Seattle Bike Polo
North American Hard Court Champ

Thanks Leon! Can't wait for it either. Lots of great women heading to East Van for a full weekend of POLO!

And, yeah, Martin just couldn't wait to correct me and had to post something before I could edit my own posting.

erm yeah lisa...

Okay catfish, I'm going to move my mouth like this...

After some peer pressure from the lovely East Van contingent that's in NYC this week, and considering my complete lack of self-control, and also in light of the crazy airline deals right now, I bought a ticket to come to this.

I'm arriving in Seattle on Thursday night.

One problem, I need a team! I did my darndest to get some other East Coast ladies out there, but no one can make it. Are there any solo ladies who want to team up? Or a duo looking for a third?

I wish I could go out there with you Cecily!!
Hope you ladies have fun, sorry I'm missing out

resoponded to your request on another thread...i think on the Crown's. peer pressure is awesome, no?

If we need to coordinate some teams in advance i am happy to help. i can see on this thread a few folks looking. if you want help email me thefishiest@resist.ca

EVBP foreva

Yeah peer pressure!
Can't wait to see you Fiona!
Talk to Cara about team-mates, she'll set you up!

Cheers to your lack of self control!

Hey Lisa, It turns out I'll be in town on the Friday of the tourney so if you still would like me to referee matches I am available and will bring my polofficer official Hardcourt bicycle polo referee's uniform! See you soon.

Yo Dawg I heard you like redundancies so we got a PIN number for your PIN

oh yeah.....

Yee HAW Tim! So great to hear. We've had amazing support from the guys about this tournament, will be great to have you involved!
We'll send all our volunteers an email early the week of the tournie to give you all a heads up on how the day is going to operate.

See you on the 18th!

tim i need a third are you in we can take out jaz tag team him

What time does the tournament start?

Hey Shelley,
We will confirm that next Saturday after our final planning meeting, but bank on an 11am sharp start. If not it will be noon, but again, no "polo-time".

See you soon!

Well Ladies,

Latest numbers report shows at least 10 teams for this tournament!
The women of East Van are tickled pink you are all coming to our little corner of the polo world!
Look for more updates in a week after our final planning meeting.
Remember to get in touch with Polly if you need housing or Cara ("fish" on this site) if you need to complete a team.
Again, if you have any questions, don't hesitate to post them.

Congratulations East Van Ladies, Bushwhackers win a tough final against Ottawa. Nice polo by all you fine ladies.

I love you ladies, well done!!!!!!!

Northern Standard

woot woot!! we did it!!!

ottawa jen for mvp of the universe!!

the whole team for pushing it to darkness!!

patricia for biggest shit-eating grin after scoring!!

cara for toughest person ever!!

scora for closing the door!!

well done east van.

jen of the mallets of mayhem taught us all different things. but we all learned that she is The Bat. sonar got her through a 4-2 comeback in the first finals game. soon after it was silly not to be on the night court, but either way it was a great tournament.

birds of prey

Top four in standings for THE LADIES ARMY...

1. Bushwackers (East Van - Cara, Lora, Patricia)
2. In my back pocket (Ottawa - Jen, Ohlea, Shelly)
3. Vagic Moments (East Van - Lisa, Naomi, Polly)
4. Killer Ladybugs (Victoria - Cordelia, Naomi, damn and apologies, I forget their third)

I'll try to get all final standings posted after the crown. The Ladies are feeling it after an amazing Friday of killer games, full day of games yesterday, but they don't cease to amaze, they're still bringing it!

L'il Miss Used

i think their third was valley?

Okay catfish, I'm going to move my mouth like this...

Cudious to you Lisa and crew in east van for both ladies tourney and van crown! I am reaching five months of polo playing and I must say thus far out west tops the charts on the polo experience. Thank you for the great job you all have done, and the amazing hospitality!!

Thank you ladies (and the fellas that helped) for putting this on. I had so much fun and can't wait to come back next year. It was amazing to see such great polo from the all-women teams. And congrats to the ladies for making it so far in the Crown as well. Amazing weekend!

Proud to be black and blue for polo.

Thank you Ladies Army for putting on such an awesome tournament! It was so fun to play such a high level of polo against such Rockstars.

Thanks to Fiona and Rachel for repping the East Coast with such Style. I had a great time playing with you.

Thanks to Polly for the hospitality - Hostess with the Mostess Award, in my book.

Thanks to all the friends, volunteers and spectators who cheered us on and fed us and but beers in our hands and tents over our heads and changed our flats and etc. etc.

And thanks to Martin and Rory and Adam and the other East Vanners who peer pressured me into coming to this damn thing in the first place. I'm very glad I did.

Hey Ladies!

Great to see that there´s so many girls playing. The girls from Munich couldn´t make it to your tournament this year. Seems it was so much fun that there´s going to be another one next year, huh? Please keep me updated. And feel free to come and play with us if you happen to be around.

I hope that sooner rather than later, we'll have all the ladies around the world coming to a tournament. Wouldn't that be a spectacular sight!

Thank you Lisa, Polly and Naomi for being the fire starters of the all womens tourney, and all the people who were involved in making it happen! I was so honored to be there and had so much fun playing with all the ladies there! west coast to east coast to the world!

Whos got the crack!

Yes an amazing weekend, thanks to all for coming to Vancouver. So where will it be next year? Guess a host city has to call it out and we will all bring it.

Great meeting all you new folks and getting to know ya.
