Coaltown Throwdown 2011: MIXER! +++NOW WITH 33% MORE MIXING!+++
Since our first try to host a tournament this year in July didn't work out, we're gonna shoot for a one day tournament in October. Bunch of swiss rounds then elimination rounds on Saturday, and if yall sticks around for Sunday we'll fire up the bbq again and play a polo century game (first team to 100) and/or pickup.
This will be our second year of the Coaltown Throwdown tournament in Nanaimo! Last year we had 11 teams and 6+ games each during one day of action before the rains came. Not bad for only a years worth of playing in this city. Its going to be even better this year.
We have a sweet secluded dual tennis court setup (with boards permanently built into the fence on 3 sides of each court), there will be BBQing and food supplied, prizes, new Nanaimo polo gear, and more to be announced as there is reason to announce.
We'll also be having a big bonfire party on Saturday night.
Just to be transparent, entry fee is $10 and a portion of this fee is going to support Nanaimo Bike Polo and the expenses incurred last year in the construction of the boards on our second court, which we have temporarily subsidized in order to make this tournament happen. The cost of these boards will take a couple of tournaments/years to pay back, but i think you will see they are well worth the investment in order to facilitate more polo being played by more people more often...people like you. In fact, we might be able to fully pay it off this year. There will be lovely combustible team gifts.
Last year the tournament was a one day full on mixer format, with the teams mixed on location. With this year's version there will be more of dat mixifying. You may register as a single player, two players or a full team. Any singles or teams that are not full will randomly pick team members from a hat. In the spirit of a true mixer, no players from the same city on a team.
Please register using this lovely REGISTRATION FORM
Registration Deadline is midnight FRIDAY OCTOBER 14
Check out THE MAP for all your Nanaimo poloing needs. It will be updated as the tournament draws near. Until then you can study up on where to buy beer around the court. =)
